-2012?s Bank Holidays ratchet up ?763k spend in home and garden alone ? up by 57%

-Decoration spend in 2012 up by 365% as Brits make do and mend

Put off by sky-high house prices, the DIY and home improvement business is booming. On 2012 Bank Holidays alone, Brits spent a huge ?763k on these purchases ? ?277k more than in 2011. And savvy shoppers keen to bag a great value DIY deal, pocketed 62% more cashback on Bank Holidays throughout the year, via Quidco than they did than was made in 2011.

Year-on-year data shows, UK consumers are increasingly tempted to dabble in a spot of home improvement, from a lick of paint to a full-blown home makeover. Spend on decoration has rocketed by a whopping 365% since 2011, with cash-strapped Brits choosing to improve rather than move. DIY spend has also shot up and Quidco customers saved themselves 52% more than last year.

The trend for a home re-vamp isn?t limited to interiors as Brits all over the UK are embracing the great outdoors and donning the gardening gloves to add value to their properties. Taking to the garden is also helping savers pocket extra cash, as additional Quidco research reveals nearly a quarter of us are growing our own vegetables as an additional means to save money during the recession.

Andy Oldham, Managing Director at Quidco, comments:

?Home improvement and DIY offers a great option for those looking for a change, but unable to stump up the cash required for a big move. It?s excellent to see customers are earning significantly more cashback on these DIY purchases in 2012 as the country continues to make a slow recovery from the recession. Quidco is committed to providing our shoppers with the best value in all sectors with DIY and leisure being no exception.?
